Downgrade iPhone/iPad Apps [HowTo]

You surely have experienced already, updating one of your apps and realising afterwards that the new update doesn't work properly.
For many of you this might be a problem in case the app that stopped working is that one you can't live without, but don't worry, I'll tell you how to downgrade iPhone/iPad apps!

You need:
• Your iDevice.
• A computer with iTunes.
Note: This might be pretty confusing so if you have any question feel free to leave a comment below and I'll try to help you.

First of all, did you sync your apps with iTunes after updating the app you want to downgrade?
This will only work if you did not sync your iDevice's apps with iTunes after updating.

Let's get started...

Step 1: Delete the app from your iDevice.

Step 2: Connect your iDevice to your computer and open iTunes - do not let it sync!!!

Step 3: Click on your iDevice's name and go to the apps list.

Step 4: Select the app you want to downgrade and click Install next to the name in order to reinstall it on your iDevice.

Step 5: Click Apply on the bottom right corner of iTunes and you're good to go!

After doing this your app will be downgraded to the last version it had the last time you synced your iDevice's apps with iTunes.

Reminder: This will not work if you synced your apps with iTunes after updating.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll try to help you.
Thank you for reading!

  1. If i updated app last version and synced in itune. How will i do?, because i dont have older version in pc. :(

  2. As said in the tutorial, if you updated the app and synced your device with iTunes afterwards, this will /not/ work and it's not possible to downgrade the app anymore. Unless you ask someone who has the same app, in an older version, and do these steps in that person's computer in order to downgrade your app. Otherwise you won't be able to do it.

  3. where do you find the app? Because I can't find mine...

  4. As mentioned in the tutorial: on iTunes, click on your iDevice's name, then on the top bar click on "Apps" to see the list. Look for the app you want to downgrade and click on the "Install" button next to the name. After doing this, click "Apply" on the bottom right corner of iTunes.

If your app is not in the list, then there is nothing I can do to help you since it's probably a problem with your purchases.

  5. No apps are appearing under my ipad in itunes. Mind you, I have never synced my ipad within itunes. I don't use itunes. Will your method still work and I just haven't done the right thing? The ipad appears, including the music and it shows the various screens (I can rearrange the app icons on the ipad from within itunes), but no apps are shown. Would your method only work if I had synced with itunes BEFORE I updated the app I want to downgrade?
