Sometimes updating an app doesn't exactly mean it's going to be better. Sometimes you actually realize that the new update is buggy and not worth having, so you want to go back to the previous version.

At first this might seem hard to do, but it's not! You just have to make sure you did not sync your iDevice to iTunes after you upgraded the app you want to downgrade. If you did, then this won't work anymore for you, unfortunately.

Downgrading Apps on iTunes

Remember that this will not work if you synced your iDevice with iTunes after you upgraded the app you want to downgrade.
  • Step 1: Delete the app you want to downgrade from your iDevice.
  • Step 2: Connect your iDevice to iTunes using the USB cable. DO NOT LET IT SYNC!
  • Step 3: Click on your iDevice's name and head to the apps list. Click on Install next to the app you want to downgrade.

  • Step 4: Click on Apply on the bottom-right corner of iTunes.

That's it! The app should now be downgraded.

Remember that if you upgrade an app and sync your iDevice to iTunes after you've done so, you won't be able to downgrade it anymore. This happens because before you sync your iDevice with iTunes, it will only have the older version of your apps saved. This way you can install those versions until you sync the new ones.

  1. If i updated app last version and synced in itune. How will i do?, because i dont have older version in pc. :(

  2. As said in the tutorial, if you updated the app and synced your device with iTunes afterwards, this will /not/ work and it's not possible to downgrade the app anymore. Unless you ask someone who has the same app, in an older version, and do these steps in that person's computer in order to downgrade your app. Otherwise you won't be able to do it.

  3. where do you find the app? Because I can't find mine...

  4. As mentioned in the tutorial: on iTunes, click on your iDevice's name, then on the top bar click on "Apps" to see the list. Look for the app you want to downgrade and click on the "Install" button next to the name. After doing this, click "Apply" on the bottom right corner of iTunes.

If your app is not in the list, then there is nothing I can do to help you since it's probably a problem with your purchases.

  5. No apps are appearing under my ipad in itunes. Mind you, I have never synced my ipad within itunes. I don't use itunes. Will your method still work and I just haven't done the right thing? The ipad appears, including the music and it shows the various screens (I can rearrange the app icons on the ipad from within itunes), but no apps are shown. Would your method only work if I had synced with itunes BEFORE I updated the app I want to downgrade?
