Change AppStore Language on iPhone/iPad [HowTo]

For some reason, Apple's AppStore sometimes shows up in a language that has nothing to do with your actual language. The most common happens to be English speakers having their AppStore in Japanese or Chinese.

This is really frustrating, especially when you don't understand a thing of the language your AppStore has, but don't worry! I'll tell you how to fully change its language.

Change Your AppStore's Language

  • Step 1: Go to your iDevice's Settings.
  • Step 2: Scroll down until you find iTunes & App Store and select it.
  • Step 3: Tap your Apple ID and then Sign Out.
  • Step 4: Tap Sign In and choose Create New Apple ID. You won't be creating a new account, don't worry!
  • Step 5: You'll be asked to choose your Store. Choose the country which speaks the language you want on your AppStore. For example, if you want French, choose France.
The country you choose is only relevant to set your AppStore language. It doesn't have to be the country where you live.
  • Step 6: Click Next and then Agree.
  • Step 7: Fill in all information until you're asked for your credit card. You don't need to type in this info.
  • Step 8: Once you're asked for your credit card, click Cancel and exit the Create New Apple ID section.
  • Step 9: Go back to iTunes & App Store on your iDevice's Settings and sign in with your actual Apple ID.

Your AppStore language should now be changed to the one you chose on Step 5.

  27. Didnt work. I am signing in using my old account so I didn't create a new one anymore. That's why I still can't change it.

  28. You don't have to create a new account, you just have to start doing it until you reach the payment information. Then you just cancel the account creation and the AppStore should be now running the language you chose.

  43. I have several iPads and IPhones and they all react differently with this tutorial. one additional step is sometimes needed. I want my Swiss App Store display English menus.

Once you signed out of your Apple-ID, between step 3 and 4. Go under Settings/General/International/Language and chose English if you want the App Store to display English menus. Then follow the next steps from step 4 of the tutorial. Sometimes you have to restart the phone between step 3 and 4 for the changes to take effect. It is also important that you sign in your account inside the settings and not in the App Store itself or it will switch back to the App Store language...

  57. Hi! Had the same problem, but it turned out to be even easier! Log in on your ID, then go to Apple ID-View ID-change country (choose one with prefered language) then on the credit card page cancel the process (Cancel and exit the Create New Apple ID section.). Worked as a charm!

  62. I have to defend Max on this one. I was trying to change it from Chinese to English. When I clicked "Create new Apple ID", it took me to a page in Chinese. I can't read Chinese, especially not the characters. However, when I clicked "View ID", as Max did, it asked me to agree to terms, change my country and then put in the credit card information, which is when I canceled the operation. I went back tot he app store and it's all in English :)

  81. No, it won't. It will only change the AppStore's language. Everything else won't be affected.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Didn't work. I got to the point of signing out; but then the sign in remains inoperable. I cannot get past that, even after I deleted the text pre-filled with my current AppleID. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  83. I have the similar problem. After i sign out from the appstore i am not getting any option to create any new id. It automatically fills my Apple id in username and it prompts me to enter the password. When i type the password and sign in it goes to appstore in dutch. I need to change it to English. Can someone help?
